Flattr4Android's Blog It's about Flattr and Android :)

About

Flattr4Android is a standalone project. Although it was built in coordination with Flattr, Flattr and Flattr4Android are two distinct entities.

In addition to an Android application for Flattr, Flattr4Android includes two open source projects:

  • java-flattr-rest, a Java library for the Flattr REST API.
  • flattr-android-sdk, a set of source code and resources to let Android developers add Flattr buttons to their apps.

My name is Philippe Bernard. For the moment, I'm running Flattr4Android alone.

  1. Hello, great blog! This post was very useful, keep up the good work!

  2. What’s the software license of the Flattr4Android app?

I see that the SDK is Apache licensed, is the app the same? If so, where’s the source? If not, can the SDK be used by an app to Flattr things without having the Flattr app also installed?

  3. Wow! I realize I never answered :(

    So:
    - The app itself is not open source, at least for now. I still have no clear plan about this.
    - Yes, you can use the SDK in your own app. It does not require the user to have the Flattr app on hos phone, although he will be proposed to install it if he clicks (but he will also have the opportunity to flattr via the Flattr web site, so the Flattr app is truly optional).
